چکیده

A high-order Absorbing Boundary Condition (ABC) is devised on an artificial boundary for time-dependent elastic waves in unbounded domains. The configuration considered is that of a two-dimensional elastic waveguide. The proposed ABC is an extension of the Hagstrom-Warburton ABC which was originally designed for acoustic waves, and is applied directly to the displacement field. The order of the ABC determines its accuracy and can be chosen to be arbitrarily high. A special variational formulation is constructed which incorporates the ABC. A standard FE discretization is used in space, and a Newmark-type scheme is used for time-stepping. A long-time instability is observed, but simple means are shown to dramatically postpone its onset so as to make it harmless during the simulation time of interest.

High order nite-di erence approximations of the wave equation with absorbing boundary conditions: a stability analysis

This paper deals with the stability of nite di erence approximations of initial value problems for the wave equation with absorbing boundary conditions. The stability of a family of high order variational numerical schemes is studied by energy techniques. Dirichlet, sponge and rst order paraxial absorbing boundary conditions are treated. The variational form of the schemes as well as the use of...

Spectral Collocation Technique for Absorbing Boundary Conditions with Increasingly High Order Approximation

An efficient treatment is developed for the Schrödinger equation with a class of local absorbing boundary conditions, which are obtained by high order Padé expansions. These boundary conditions are significant in the simulation of open quantum devices. Based on the finite difference approximation in the interior domain, we construct a spectral collocation layer on the cell near the artificial b...

n-Times Absorbing Boundary Conditions for Compact Finite-Difference Modeling of Acoustic and Elastic Wave Propagation in the 2D TI Medium

This article presents decoupling n-times absorbing boundary conditions designed to model acoustic and elastic wave propagation in a 2D transversely isotropic (TI) medium. More general n-times boundary conditions with absorbing parameters are also obtained by cascading first-order differential operators with parameters. These boundary conditions are approximated with simple finite-difference sch...

Implementation of higher-order absorbing boundary conditions for the Einstein equations

We present an implementation of absorbing boundary conditions for the Einstein equations based on the recent work of Buchman and Sarbach. In this paper, we assume that spacetime may be linearized about Minkowski space close to the outer boundary, which is taken to be a coordinate sphere. We reformulate the boundary conditions as conditions on the gauge-invariant ReggeWheeler-Zerilli scalars. Hi...

High-order Local Absorbing Boundary Conditions for Heat Equation in Unbounded Domains

With the development of numerical methods the numerical computations require higher and higher accuracy. This paper is devoted to the high-order local absorbing boundary conditions (ABCs) for heat equation. We proved that the coupled system yields a stable problem between the obtained high-order local ABCs and the partial differential equation in the computational domain. This method has been u...
